Our PRP® Extended Grip Safety is CNC machined from hardened tool steel and designed to provide a more positive deactivation of the safety when the pistol is properly gripped. It also helps to position your hand high on the pistol for a more consistent grip. It doesn’t hurt that it looks great also. The kit includes a replacement grip safety spring.

*Please carefully select your options from the drop down menus. This safety may require minor fitting of the engagement surface*

Looks fantastic and feels great. But man is that spring hard to get back in.

PRP® Extended Grip Safety Kit for XD, XD Mod.2, XDM, XDM Elite

Easy to install once you know how the spring goes in. Make sure the pin is centered so the grip does not bind. Secure and comfortable.

    Works well

Posted by Bassam Itani on 15th Jan 2024

The truth is, I just wanted to improve some of the aesthetics of my XD9 because I replaced my stock barrel with a stainless-steel bar-sto barrel. So I found PRP for my needs. The extended grip kit alters the safety mechanism, not the physical grip length. It reduces the trigger-deactivating pressure required on the safety, streamlining draw speed and improving emergency handling. However, mindful pressure remains crucial for safe engagement.

    Extended Grip Safety Kit

Posted by Darrell on 25th Oct 2023

I rented a Springfield XD40 and Glock 27 and decided on the XD40 due to the feel in my hand and half the recoil of the Glock. All was fine until I drew the XD from a POCKET holster, it was then I found that 4 out of 10 draws (my grip was less than ideal but certainly adequate ) did not release the factory grip safety. I also had some issues racking the slide during a simulated level 1 malfunction. After installing the extended grip safety, I found that 40 out of 40 draws from a pocket holster, resulted in the grip safety releasing. It also alleviated all issues racking the slide with the level 1 malfunction. I found the extended safety to be well made and comfortable while shooting. If you happen to be one of us that has an inconsistent grip safety release due to hand size or shape while drawing the gun, this extended release may fix this issue. You may find this video https://youtu.be/eXggcrtJiIs?si=VYVj7t0ZNQFgQL6V much clearer than the one listed in the instructions. If you are working on the subcompact model simply remove the slide and start at 15:50 in the video. You will NOT need to disassemble anything shown earlier in the video.

    PRP Extended Grip Safety

Posted by Roy Henderson on 21st Aug 2023

I consider this almost essential as an XD mod, I have put them on both my XD9 and XD45 and they are a fantastic upgrade. Makes the gun much easier to rack and really improves the dis-engagement of the safety during shooting.

    Very nice upgrade

Posted by Wayne Floyd on 11th Apr 2023

The grip safety is a nice piece of steel that fit perfectly in my XDm Elite OSP 10mm. Definitely a nicer feel than the original plastic. The spring is tricky, but I used a tiny punch through the assembly lever side to hold the spring while inserting the pin through the ejection port side and it took about 5 minutes to get the grip safety installed.

    Worth the upgrade

The extended grip safety upgrade can be a little frustrating, as some experts will tell you. But it's certainly not impossible and the results are worth it. The size and shape make it easier to achieve a more positive depression than the stock grip safety.

    For Looks & Function

Posted by Randon on 21st Feb 2023

I've never had any issues with any of my XD/XDM/XDS grip safeties so I really added this mostly for aesthetics (and to show a little love to my original XDM since my XDS and XDM Elites have extended grip safeties). I got the black, it is beautifully machined and finished plus I have a little extra assurance in case I have a sloppy grip.

    Better than stock safety

Posted by Lane on 25th Jan 2023

While it's not like a day and night change, still and upgrade both in the looks and function department. I got the steel option and it looks awesome, as far as function honestly this is more than a looks upgrade than function upgrade imo, but that's not because this one is bad but the stock safety is already great. That being said I do like this, catches better and stays pressed in different positions more easily I noticed as well definitely a must if you're using for carry.
